Educational Resources

Education is the key to inclusion for all people with disabilities. Beginning with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1975 and most recently through the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, every individual with a disability has equal access to educational opportunities. This tab presents education resources to be successful in school, employment and community.

  • Accessible Information Exchange: Meeting on a Level Playing Field
    This publication focuses on planning and conducting meetings and events that are accessible to people with disabilities.
  • AHEAD: Association of Higher Education and Disability
    AHEAD is a professional association committed to full participation of persons with disabilities in postsecondary education.
  • All Kinds of Minds
    All Kinds of Minds "A nonprofit institute for the understanding of differences in learning;" this site includes student resources, parent toolkits, research and much more. For teachers, it includes activities to help students reach their own potential through individualized learning styles.
  • Co-Teaching Connection
    This is a site of one of the leaders in co-teaching.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
    A law ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the nation. IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education and related services to more than 6.5 million eligible infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities.   • Metropolitan Community College ABLE program
  • Missouri Assistive Technology (MoAT)
    MoAT operates the ETC equipment loan program which has an inventory of over 1,000 assistive technology devices that may be borrowed by school districts or agencies on behalf of individuals to try out equipment before purchasing, for use during time when equipment is in for repair or for other short-term needs. Districts or agencies can borrow equipment for up to six weeks. The program includes a wide range of equipment including switches and mounts, computer access devices, environmental controls, hearing devices, home modifications, visual aids and augmentative communication devices. MoAT also offers training for school districts and other agencies in a variety of assistive technology topics, as well as undertaking pilot projects such as the text-to-speech pilot project for students with reading disabilities.
