Administration

The office of Administration is the service and administrative control agency created by the General Assembly to combine and coordinate the central management functions of state.

Agriculture

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has the challenge of protecting the state’s producers, processors, distributors and consumers of food, fuel and fiber, while marketing Missouri products at home and abroad.

Conservation

The Conservation Commission is charged with the control, management, restoration, conservation and regulation of the bird, fish, game, forestry and all wildlife resources of the state.

Corrections

The Department of Corrections supervises all felons and targeted misdemeanants sentenced by the courts to prison or probation.

Economic Development

The Department of Economic Development administers programs relating to the promotion of the economy of the state, trade and business.

Elementary and Secondary Education

Duties of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education include directing the process by which school districts are accredited, assuring efficient management of the public schools, and seeking “in every way to elevate the standards and efficiency of the instruction given in the public schools of the state.”

The Department of Higher Education is responsible for the development of a coordinated, statewide plan for higher education.

Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration

The mission of the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration is to efficiently and effectively encourage a fair and open market for consumer service industries.

Labor and Industrial Relations

The Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR) is responsible for administering programs that provide an income for workers to offset the loss of a job because of an injury or layoff; determine the appropriate bargaining unit for public employees; regulate wages for public works and construction projects; promote safe working environments; enforce Missouri’s anti-discriminatory statutes and protect Missouri citizens in the aras of housing, employment and public accommodations.

Mental Health

The Missouri Department of Mental Health serves Missourians by working to prevent substance abuse, mental disorders, and developmental disabilities; by rehabilitating, treating, and habilitating persons with those conditions; and by educating the public about mental health.

Natural Resources

The Department of Natural Resources has four programmatic divisions. They are the Division of Energy, the Division of Environmental Quality, the Division of State Parks, and the Division of Geology and Land Survey.

Public Safety

The mission of the Department of Public Safety is to ensure the safety and security of Missouri’s citizens and their property. It is responsible for all elements of law enforcement, criminal investigation, and public safety activities undertaken by state government, and for coordinating these efforts with local and federal law enforcement and public safety agencies.

Revenue

The Department of Revenue’s principal responsibilities include income tax collection, the issuance of driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations.

Social Services

The Department of Social Services partners with families and communities to protect children, rehabilitate youth and move families to self sufficiency so that Missourians can lead safe, healthy and productive lives.

Transportation

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) helps develop and improve airports, rail facilities, waterways, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities statewide. Decisions are made concerning highway location, design, construction, and maintenance.
