JACKSON COUNTY – Crews will continue bridge rehabilitation on the twin bridges on I-435 over Raytown Road. The following traffic configuration is in place. NB I-435 will have a two-lane closure before Raytown Rd. from April 24 through mid-Aug. 2024 NEW: 8 p.m. on May 3 until 8 a.m. on May 4 (approximately) scheduled double lane closure for NB I-435 from just before Raytown Rd. and just past Stadium Dr. for pavement repair (evening/overnight). This will not be a complete closure and one lane will remain open on NB I-435. This work is weather dependent. SB I-435 will have a single lane closure over Raytown Rd. from NOW through Dec. 2024 Reminders for motorists traveling to Kauffman Stadium: Motorists traveling to Kauffman Stadium will need to plan ahead, leave early and be vigilant of work in the area. Access to gates 5, 6, and 7 from I-435 north may be impacted. Additional reminders will be shared on MoDOT KC social media channels and email alerts through the MoDOT E-Update system throughout construction. Reminders for work at NB I-435 and Raytown Road/Stadium Dr. Exit Ramp from NB I-435 to Raytown Road/Stadium Dr. will remain open. Two lanes will remain open at all times. I-435 traffic will be diverted onto the Raytown Rd./Stadium Dr. exit ramp and then back to I-435 via a temporary roadway between the ramp and NB I-435, in order to keep two lanes open at all times on NB I-435 Crews are working to finish NB I-435 construction ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs first preseason game. Reminders for work at SB I-435 and Raytown Road/Stadium Dr. Two lanes will remain open at all times. All three lanes will be open before the SB I-435 and Raytown Road/Stadium Rd. entrance ramp. SB I-435 construction will continue through Dec. 2024 In the coming months, motorists may notice traffic impacts on SB I-435 near the I-70 interchange and the NB I-435 traffic just north of Sni-A-Bar Rd as crews work to rehab the twin bridges. Regional grant funding will be used to cover the cost of requested equipment that will help reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries on roadways. Agencies must provide justification on how the equipment will help make Missouri’s roads safer. The items this grant normally awards out include: flashlights, medical trauma kits, portable breathalyzer tests, rain jackets, road flare kits, safety vests, Stalker radars, tint meters, and traffic cones. Application submissions will be accepted May 1- June 16. At their December 2023 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded Capital Paving & Construction, LLC (Capital) a $5,506,594.12 contract to resurface 5.33 miles of Providence Road from Route K/Old Plank Road to Interstate 70. Capital and their subcontractors plan to start pavement repairs in preparation for the asphalt resurfacing on the south end of Providence Road, near Route K/Old Plank Road and progress north towards I-70. Work will continue nightly Monday through Friday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for approximately 10 working days. Motorists should expect delays. Following the pavement repair, crews plan to work on the concrete traffic barrier and guardrail before resurfacing begins in June. In addition, a right turn lane will be added at the intersection of northbound Providence Road and Veterans United Drive. The project is expected to continue through August. All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change. Contractor crews will remove the bridge deck/driving surface and replace it with a new surface. The bridge will remain closed for up to 110 days to complete the work. The current structure was built in 1965 and is experiencing increasing deterioration. Approximately 560 vehicles cross the bridge daily.
